Wren Elise Papenfuss
March 1, 2013
6 lbs 6 oz, 19 inches
38 Week appointment: : 100 % effaced and when the PA checked me (Dr. Lindstrom was out of town) she told me that Wren's head was so far down that she could not even tell if I was dilated. By this point I can hardly walk due to the pressure, but I keep getting out on walks because I am going crazy in the house. I am also having contractions, but nothing painful and nothing consistent.
39 Week appointment: Dr. Lindstrom comes in and tells me that I'm dilated to a 4, and that this baby is ready to come. Her head is at a 1+ position with 3 being crowning. I am pretty in shock due to the fact that my contractions have been pretty painless. I jokingly ask him if we can just get me going, and to my surprise he says that is a good idea, and that we can do it today or tomorrow... I tell him that I don't want any pitocin and that I will set up a time to be at the hospital tomorrow but I might just let her come on her own.
Later that night..... Pressure is so great in my pelvis area that I barely sleep a wink and spend most of the night going to the bathroom.
March 1st: Layne and I jump in the car and head to the hospital.
Here is the story that Layne wrote while in the delivery room and some added.
We got to the hospital at 7:30 and was dilated to a 5! Soon after we arrived McKenzie was given a gel pack to start labor and almost immediately started having very painful contractions. We were able to help her out of bed and walked around Labor and Delivery for about an hour. After about an hour and a half they checked McKenzie again and she was dilated to a 7, and was asking for the epidural.
11:30: Anesthesiologist comes in and gives the epidural. This was terrible for her! After it was placed, everything seemed to be getting better or so we thought...... the epidural was only working on one side and she was still crying in pain. The nurse has her laying on her side to see if this will help, but nothing.
12:10 ish: Anesthesiologist comes back in and who knows what he does but Hallelujah she can't feel anything. (Now McKenzie narrating)
12:30: I feel a really weird balloon popping sensation and the nurse tells me my water has broken and that the doctor is on his way cause I'm dilated to a 10!
1:00: Dr. Lindstorm show up, and I'm so glad to see him. He has such great attitude about everything. He starts working his magic with some oils, and tells me that I will most likely have a small tear, but no Episiotomy! I'm so happy about this because I know I will heal faster.
1:00-3:13 : We push for just over two hours and she is finally here! Right after she pops out Layne cuts her cord and they put her right on m chest for some skin to skin! I loved this part. After a few minutes they take her to get her weight and all that jazz, and after Layne gets to also do some skin on skin!
